NAIC Big Data and AI (H) Working Group

The Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (H) Working Group is the NAIC body where insurance AI policy is actually worked out. It sits under the Innovation, Cybersecurity and Technology (H) Committee. Its charges include monitoring state, federal, and international AI activity so the NAIC can respond and address effects on existing state insurance laws, supporting adoption of the Model Bulletin on the use of AI systems by insurers, and facilitating discussion on AI systems evaluation, including developing tools and training to help regulators review AI systems.

For anyone following the file, the working group’s page is the entry point rather than the document. It is an index: the AI Systems Evaluation Tool and its tracked-changes and exposure drafts, the pilot project summary, the health AI survey data call, and the state adoption map for the AI model bulletin are all posted there as attachments. Anything load-bearing should be quoted from those underlying PDFs, not from the page that lists them.

The meetings are public and worth knowing about. The group runs open Webex calls between national meetings, and the posted purpose line for each call is usually the earliest signal of what is moving. There is no verbatim transcript to catch up on afterwards, and the NAIC’s own notice says committee and task force minutes go up roughly ten business days after a national meeting ends, with interim call minutes often appearing later as an attachment to a subsequent agenda.
